ELECTRIC SUBSTATION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT AND CHANGES MADE ON THE PROJECT’S TIMELINE TO HELP DURING THE 2/22/23 WINTER STORM

Background: There have been several community wide power outages in the last six months. Part of the reason for the increased outages is the Village was down to one DTE line last year while DTE repaired the Macon Substation. The Village is still down to one line from DTE because of the Village’s new substation construction project. Once that project is completed in the spring of 2023, the Village will be served by two lines from DTE again. Being able to switch service between two lines will help reduce power outages.

Plan of Action: As of Tuesday, February 21, 2023 the contractors were able to energize the new transformer. Due to the winter weather advisory, the Village President, Village Manager and Electric Superintendent paused construction on the substation project to allow the Village temporary access to both DTE lines in case of a power outage. We are very fortunate with the timing of the transformer project allowing us access to two lines from DTW during this storm. In the event of power loss from the primary DTE feed, the Electric department will be able to manually switch to the secondary line.

Power Outage Updates: In the event of a power outage, follow the Village of Clinton on Facebook or visit our website at www.villageofclinton.org. Updates will be posted as soon as we have more information.
